This April, we are taking the time to talk about stress. April is national stress awareness month, and we need to talk about how stress affects our bodies, our minds, and our relationships.
Stress Facts
Stress manifests itself in many different forms, it can cause us to hold extra tension in our bodies, it can make us push our loved ones away and hurt our friends and family. Stress can be acute, or short term, or long-term, also known as chronic stress. Stress can be caused by many different things, from fears about money, to our physical health, and from being overbooked and having too many deadlines.
It is so important that when you are feeling stressed you find a way to relieve yourself from it. There are resources out there to help, and many options to help relax your body and mind. It's so important to note that people handle stress in different ways. Some people tend to meditate, or journal to calm their minds. Some people need to get hyper organized if their stress is related to deadlines.
Managing Stress
If your stress shows itself physically, by tight shoulders, an aching neck, or clenching your jaw, some great ways to help relieve it is with simple exercises, getting a massage, or even an adjustment. A lot of people say that going for a walk or run in nature is a great way for them to help them relieve their stress and refocus their energy to become more productive. In fact, Harvard researchers found that just 20 minutes a day can help lower stress hormone levels!
Stress can be isolating, but it is important to remember that you are allowed to ask people for help ( and we don’t just mean getting help from a chiro!) Spending time to manage your stress is not a waste of time, in fact, it has been proven to help you become happier and therefore reach your goals faster in the long run. So, whether you plan to give us a call to get adjusted, spend some time out in nature, or reach out to a friend or family member, It is so important to make sure that you manage your stress to live a happier and more painless life!
